Nine major operators will be launching this Friday, just in time for the Super Bowl and NFL conference championship
This Friday will see the long awaited commencement of the online sports betting and casino markets in the state of Michigan. This comes after a formal announcement made by the control board responsible for gaming in Michigan.
The announcement outlined that nine out of the states fifteen online sports books will probably be in a position to launch its services come Friday the 22nd of January 2021.
Additionally, the following days between authorisation and launch will allow operators and platform providers the opportunity to further test and adjust their end product before gaming goes live in the state.
Furthermore, the Michigan Gaming Control Board will also authorise further operators to launch online sports betting in the stipulated time frame.
Originally, MI sports Betting had permitted and launched retail only outlets last March, however, the states majority of licenced operators will aim to be readily prepared to launch just before the NFL conference championship and Super Bowl events which would give them the opportunity to maximise their revenue.
The nine operators that will be launching this Friday consists of major players within the industry such as,
- William Hill ,
- BetMGM ,
- DraftKings Sportsbook ,
- Barstool Sportsbook (partnered with Penn National‘s Greektown Casino and will be launching without an iGaming component),
- FanDuel Sportsbook ,
- Golden Nugget ,
- BetRivers ,
- TwinSpires (the amended sports betting brand for Churchill Downs)
- and WynnBET
On the other hand, operators that did not make the cut consist of two well known sports books such as FOX Bet and PointsBet whom both aim to launch in Michigan sometime towards the end of January.
Other operators that are not able to launch on Friday consist of
- Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians, partnered with Scientific Games.
- Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, partnered with Kambi.
- Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe
- Gun Lake Indians, partnered with Parx
The launch will inevitably bring about high expectations for the market and it is estimated that about $8 billion in total will be wagered by bettors and $500 million in operator revenue at maturity is expected. The launch will signify the first time that both iGaming and online sports books will launch in a US jurisdiction at once.
